This ffic is an old fanfic of mine that I did last year =p I used a different artist before but I just changed it to Hu Ge so that I could post it up here haha… so yea… enjoy ^^

Looking at the little fur ball in his hand, his lips unconsciously curved a little smile. The little hamster was biting a sunflower seed happily without even bothering his existence.

The cool breezes passed and stroked his hair gently. The park has been his favourite place since the weather’s really enjoyable, especially on bright sunny days like today. He seemed to enjoy the day, especially with the unexpected sudden appearance of his new friend, the gold furred hamster.

Although this isn’t exactly the same looking hamster as the one he used to own four years ago, but he felt like he shared a strong bonding with this little one too. Right… He’s been a hamster lover since forever.

Upon the familiarity of this hamster to him, his thoughts were brought back to an existence that he couldn’t forget about...

“Congratulation to Hu Ge, for he has been successfully entered the final round of the MIT mathematics competition this year…”

Soon as Mr. Lao, his homeroom teacher paused, the rest of his classmates started to join their hands together for him. He felt so high and proud of his own achievement. He had wanted the scholarship to study at the MIT University. It’s been his biggest dream since ever. Now that he was near to achieve his dream, obviously it’s normal for him to be proud.

“And also not to forget our smart Missy, Miss Lin Yi Chen, who also had successfully, entered the final round…”

High pitched cheering started to overload the class from the bunch of girls who were sitting around the girl, namely Yi Chen. Yi Chen however, seemed a little bit shocked by the excited cheering from her friends while trying hardly to settle down from choking herself with her pork buns. Yeap… she was eating during class as usual…

“Congrats! I know you could make it! Smart ass!” Rui Ying, Yi Chen’s closest friend said while patting her back, trying to help her to settle from the choking. Yi Chen looked at Rui Ying with a smile, “Thanks!”

“Oh… and by the way…” She continued, “What did Mr. Lao said? I didn’t quiet hear it? And what’s the congratulation for?”

Rui Ying had mentally fallen off her chair. She tried to take a deep breath and said, “Mr. Lao said you have entered the final round of the MIT Maths competition!”
For a while, Yi Chen was wondering what mathematic competition her friend was talking about. She fixed the position of her thick specs sitting lowly on her nose, with her eyebrows knitted together confusedly.

“Ohh… I entered the final round…” She nodded, still with a confused look.

‘1… 2… 3…’ Rui Ying counted in her mind.

“OHH!! Did I make it to the final??? Really????” As expected, Yi Chen’s late response finally came after the words were registered into her brain, in which it takes a good three seconds for the process. Rui Ying could only shake her head hopelessly as she’s used to it.

Ge Ge squinted at Yi Chen spitefully.

She. She just ruined his life. She had ruined his entire life by just entering the final round of the MIT’s mathematics competition.

Why her? He still couldn’t understand why such an ignorance student like her, who even eats during classes, could actually be the one who compete for the scholarship with him. Him, Hu Ge, teachers’ all-time favourite student, who is so dedicated in his education.

Since the first day of high school, he had always come first in rank out of the rest of his entire year level. All was perfect until the coming of the new student in the following year, Lin Yi Chen. Since then, he and Yi Chen had been rival forever. If not him taking the first place, Yi Chen would take it over from him.

He hated her. He hated her to the core.

While Yi Chen…

“Hey… good luck in the competition Yi Chen! Ge Ge would make a tough rival eh?" Xiao Kui poked her friend’s ribs while nudging Ge Ge.

“Ge Ge? Who’s Ge Ge?”

Obviously, she wasn’t even paying attention to her fellow classmate, namely Hu Ge.

Rui Ying and Xiao Kui exchanged their looks of helplessness and concurrently rolled their eyes, “Anyway…”

Two months later,

“Class, we have a bad news… that is our fellow classmate, Hu Ge, has been hospitalised for a week because of typhus. I need a volunteer who’s willing to pay him a visit just to show him concern on behalf of our class.” Mr. Lao announced in front of the class whose population was busied by pretending to be busy with their works.

Mr. Lao shook his head, as no one is willing to do this. Kids these days… they just don’t have the solidarity towards their classmate.

“Alright then… since none of you are volunteering… I’m just going to choose one of you to go…” As soon as Mr. Lao decided so, the rest of the class had their heads down lower than before.

“How about… Miss Rui Ying?”

“Ah~ why me Sir? I’ve got tutor after school! How about Xiao Kui!” She nudged Xiao Kui who had a disapproval look on her face.

“No! I mean… I can’t sir! I’m working after school! You should’ve picked Yi Li…”
Upon hearing her name being mentioned, Yi Li decided to protest before it’s too late.

“I can’t Sir! I have to accompany my little sister for her dentist appointment!” She refused.

“What little sister? I know you’re an only child!” Xiao Kui shouted back, confronting her fake reason.

Yi Chen, who was trying to solve a question from the extension section in her maths book got fed up and spoke, “Shhhoosh!!! I’ll do it!”

Apparently, Yi Chen didn’t pay any attention to the argument and just said that for the sake of a peaceful silence in the class so that she could proceed with her works. Seeing an opportunity to free themselves from the burden, therefore before the three seconds process in her brain ended, Xiao Kui, Rui Ying, and Yi Li immediately nodded their heads together.

So the decision’s taken. Yi Chen’s the chosen one to go to the hospital.

1… 2… 3…

“Eh… where do you want me to go again, Sir?” Yi Chen looked up from her book and asked innocently…

Yi Chen walked through the hospital’s corridor unstably as her small figure didn’t seem to be able to afford that much stuff that she brought over. She nearly spilled all the things in her big bag as she entered Ge Ge’s ward.

“Hi… you must be Ge Ge right?” She said as she put down the big bag she had been holding the whole time. Ge Ge squinted at her and seemed to be irritated by her arrival.

“Did Mr. Lao send you here?” He replied to her coldly. Yi Chen rolled her eyes, thinking what would be the best word to describe the ‘accident’.

“Well, technically… no. I volunteered myself…” She stroked her chin while nodding her head. Ge Ge looked at her in disbelief. He was rather surprised by the unexpected answer.

“Anyway… I’ve brought you lots of fruits! I hope you’d get better soon…” She said while getting all the fruits out of the bag. Ge Ge doubted if she said the previous statement sincerely or rather unconsciously. Getting out the last bag of fruits, she seemed to be preoccupied by something.

She took out her maths notebook from her backpack and handed it to him.
“You must’ve missed a lot of exercises… catch up as soon as you’re fit okay? Don’t miss on the competition…”

His eyes caught the sincerity in her eyes as she handed the notebook to him. The sincerity had a magnet force in it that moved his hand to accept the book. His only rival. His only obstacle in getting the scholarship. Yet, she’s also the only one who’s being sincerely caring towards him.

“Jia you!” She said as his hand came into contact with the book.

Since then on, he had decided one important thing in his life…

A week after the competition,

“Ge Ge! Have you seen the announcement of the scholarship winner?” Yi Chen came up to him on the day the announcement’s out.

“No.” A usual short answer came from him.

No. He wasn’t intending to be so cold to her after all that she’s done for him, neither was he too proud or something like that. It’s just because he didn’t dare to look at her in the eyes. Since the day she visited him in the hospital, he somehow had developed a weird feeling towards her that would make his heart beat faster and slower at the same time every time she’s around him. Thus, he decided not to make a fool of himself and better to keep quiet.

“Me neither! Let’s go to the office together to see the announcement!” She said as her hands tried to grab his arm. Ge Ge couldn’t afford the embarrassment, thus he quickly shrugged off her hands.

“I know who wins… you can go and see for yourself…” He said as he packed his books into his backpack. Yi Chen eyed him confusedly as he left the class.

“But didn’t he just said that he hasn’t seen the announcement either? How did he know who’s winning then?” She scratched her head confusedly.

“Weirdo…” She shrugged and went straight to the office.

Ge Ge however, had never regretted his decision. He had never regretted that he gave in to Yi Chen. He had purposely left blank a question in the multiple-choice section and let Yi Chen to win over him by one mark. He wanted to grant her the scholarship for she had given him the first sincerity as a friend that he had never received before in his life. He had always been the ‘nerd’, the ‘geek’ or whatever you’d like to call it and no one would ever pay attention to him. She’s been very nice to him though she knew he’s her rival for the scholarship.

During weekend, Ge Ge had gone around mall by mall just to look for a present for her. She’d be leaving soon for the scholarship and he just wanted her to remember him. He was devastated, as by the end of the day he hasn’t got anything yet. Tomorrow she’ll be leaving while he still could find nothing for her. He was still empty-handed even until night fell, and he had to go back home before his paranoid mom called his cell phone once every five minutes until he’s actually home.

At night, he couldn’t rest his eyes until they struck on a brown furry ball inside the little cage, which was biting the sunflower seed happily.

Yi Chen had been ready with her big traveling bag. Her tickets were handy inside her backpack. She was hugging her best friends one by one to bid them farewell. Xiao Kui suddenly caught a sight of Ge Ge and poked her friend’s rib to approach him.

“Ge Ge!” Yi Chen called out in surprise.

“Ge Ge! How could you be so clumsy to left blank a question! Tsk! Next time you have to check your answers twice okay? Such a pity we couldn’t go together… I believe you’re a very potential mathematician…” Ge Ge could only smile upon the concern blabbering of her.

“Congrats…” he replied shortly.

“Oh… and… I have a gift for you. I hope you’d always remember me with this…” He handed her the little cage. Inside, there was Ge Ge’s most favourite pet, the gold furred hamster. Yi Chen smiled sweetly upon the gift, and after she thanked him, they bid a quick farewell.

Ge Ge had never seen her again for the past four years. No communication either. He missed her. But what could he do? Now he’d changed a lot from the geeky guy into the university’s top five hunkies. Though so, never did he ever feel the same way towards a girl other than Yi Chen. He’s wondering whether Yi Chen would still be the same old blurry girl like before. Indeed, he really wanted to meet her. At least just for the sake of knowing how she’s doing.

Getting back into the reality, he got up and was intending to bring home the little hamster when suddenly…

“Xiao Ge Ge! Don’t hide! I know you’re there! If you don’t come out in a moment, Mommy will leave you alone in here!”

Ge Ge was surprised. Could it be…

His mom? No way! His mom wouldn’t call herself ‘mommy’. Well, at least not after he turned 10. Gross.

He turned around and even more surprised to see who’s standing there. Well… it was rather, who’s squatting there to look for something between the grasses. He recognized her familiar petite figure. Though the thick specs that used to obscure her eyes were now off the place, he still could recognize her.

“Yi Chen?”

She was as surprised at him and there’d been an awkward silence for a moment until her eyes struck on the brown little furry ball on Ge Ge’s hand.

“Xiao Ge Ge! Mommy’s been looking for you, you know! You made me so
worried!” Yi Chen took the hamster from Ge Ge gently.

“Hey! I have an objection! How could you give the hamster a name exactly the same as mine?”

Yi Chen giggled mischievously. Not after the three seconds process thankfully.
“Because… I thought you really look like this hamster… Oh and by the way, this isn’t Ge Ge, the hamster you gave me earlier. Ge Ge had been married to a female hamster of my American friend and this is his daughter, Xiao Ge Ge… isn’t she cute?” She patted Xiao Ge Ge’s head.

“My god! It’s a SHE? And you call her Xiao Ge Ge!” =.=;

He knew it. She would never change.

“So how are you doing?”

Ge Ge was surprised that the voice he heard wasn’t a single heavy one, which belongs to him, but rather sounded like there’s a female voice joining in to say the same line concurrently. Both of them chuckled awkwardly as they realized they’ve said the same line together.

There was only an awkward silence enveloping the atmosphere between them, as they couldn’t find any other words to say to each other. Both of them seemed intrigued to say something to break the silence, but they ended up just deeply looking at each other’s eyes. Eyes were the windows of the soul. There was not much left to talk about.

As to what happened next, I shall just leave it to you guys to use your imagination to continue the story…
