[2007.07.04] HuGe’s Comeback in LOCH; Nicknamed “Map Boy”

A sudden traffic accident caused “idol status” HuGe to suffer unprecedented setbacks on the face and psychologically. When there were commotions on the outside thinking that this fine-looking lad would hence fade out of the entertainment circuit, he had instead indomitably chosen to make a comeback. Based on a report by 紅網 [Red Net], HuGe recently appeared in 《背後的故事》 [“The Story Behind”] as agreed, but this time the host was changed from ZhangDanDan to his good friends, HeGui and XieNa.

According to the report, when reminiscing the convalescence days of HuGe during recording of the program, both hosts once sobbed till the program almost had to stop recording, whereas HuGe himself was consistently making effort to control his emotions. About the future, HuGe said to first finish shooting LOCH before any further contemplation. On the need for continuous facial reconstruction, he expressed that “it’ll do so long as can recover/restore, does not need to be very good looking.”

The report highlighted that it was just one "Chinese Paladin" that caused an unknown HuGe to leap into stardom, but there were very few people who knew that right from the start, the company only arranged a very small role for HuGe. “When I arrived for the screen test with the production team, there would always be an actor strangely asking me if I’m acting as the first male lead, LiXiaoYao. At that time, I never even thought in the direction of this role because then the candidates shortlisted for this role were big shots like Alan LuoZhiXiang” And more interestingly, host, HeGui even disclosed a small secret during recording, that he was in fact also a strong contender for “LiXiaoYao” in “Chinese Paladin” at that point in time. “That time, “Chinese Paladin” sounded me out a couple of times, but abruptly stopped contacting me. I subsequently enquired out of curiosity; then got to know that an actor called HuGe was decided.” HeGui further joked that, “how could there be someone who resembles ‘LiXiaoYao’ more than me?” However, after looking at HuGe’s photo, HeGui indicated that he became convinced as well. “To be ‘snatched away’ by him, I felt that the production team was right.”

The report said that if one does not look at HuGe’s eyes carefully, perhaps one will only feel that it’s just a change of image. A pair of thick black frame specs made HuGe looked as far as a little like Korean star, PeiYongJun. However, the actual situation is that on the eyelid area behind his glasses, those closely woven stitches post skin graft surgery were snake-like, and nonetheless quite obvious. In his new book, his manager also uninhibitedly teased him as “map boy”. HuGe even self-consoled himself: “Has already been a handsome chap for 24 years; even if I could not become an actor, become a director will also be the most handsome one among those with scars. Therefore I feel that if I no longer act, just a basic recovery/restoration will do, does not need to be too good looking.”
And what moved HuGe was that the entire production team of LOCH stopped work because of his injury to await his return. At the recording, HeGui also delivered 8 characters personally written by JinYong as the latter’s encouragement for HuGe, “After a traumatic experience, one will become outstanding”. HuGe said that he will return to the team on the 5th. “I’m still a little worried on the close-ups. Fortunately could still use make-up, lights, and shooting angles for correction. Although teacher JinYong already agreed to let ‘GuoJing's’ face to be seriously injured, but we still chose to respect the original ultimately.”

omg, after reading your translation, i really want to watch the clip.. must be very touching until they almost had to stop recording the program

there must be many casts for "li xiao yao" in CP .. it's great that hu ge had been chosen for the role.. it make him a superstar n we can recognize him ;P

actually i don't really get it, why they nicknamed hu ge "map boy?"

Welcome hil. I'm also not quite sure why his manager called him "map boy". My guess is becos' of his so-called "centipedes" on his face during his hospital stay making him look like a map? Perhaps it's mentioned in his book.

Thanks again for the translation, Winks! You're so nice to us!! (but don't forget what we said about getting enough rest and eating well and keeping a healthy lifestyle ^_^ )

Hil, I want to watch that clip too!! Although...I wouldn't be able to understand it without subs. *Note to self: learn Mandarin!!*

Yes, I'm pretty sure the nickname was because the scars look like features on a map (such as a river, since the scar is supposedly "snakelike").

I HAVE RECENTLY START WATCHING HU GE'S MOVIES AND LOVE HIS MOVIES. HEARING ABOUT HIS ACCIDENT IS SO UNFORTUNATE. I CAN'T READ CHINESE, BUT THIS SITE HAS BEEN VERY INFORMATIVE. WITH THE SCARRING ON HIS RIGHT EYE, IS THIS GOING TO AFFECT HIS CAREER AND HAVE ANYONE HEARD OF ANYTHING. I THINK HE IS A GOOD ACTOR, AND I WOULD FEEL VERY SAD FOR HIM IF HIS SCAR WOULD LIMIT HIS ABILITY TO ACT AND GET GOOD ROLES IN THE FUTURE.

Hi Hil...
yes.. he's always really shuai.. I think he's skinnier in TWFX than he is in CP..

Hi marrywoman3
that scar would not limit his abiluty to act.. don't worry.. it's not that obvious.. and I think it makes him look even manlier..

arsenal6 - July 26, 2007 12:52 PM (GMT)
it may make ppl find him 'maniler' but in the end it becomes 2 obvious and also the main focus is the scar not his face so regardless it bad...scars in general i feel bad for him
